    Ames C400 and Ames C500 are reduced pressure principle assemblies. This model was produced under the Hunter name from 2000-2002. In 2002 Watts bought the Hunter models and began producing them as the Ames C400. Watts also produces this under the Watts name as the model 957. The "C" designation refers to Ames Colt brand name. The body is stainless steel tubing. To access the check components a sleeve is mounted over the access cover. On the 2 1/2"-6" size the sleeve slides over the body to access the check components. On the 8"-10" size the sleeve is attached by two grooved couplings. The check components are modular and constructed of Noryl plastic. The check utilizes a torsion spring which is contained when the check module is removed from the body. The check spring must be extended and controlled with a pin or screwdriver to replace the check disc. The check discs are either an EPDM or silicone. The body length dimensions may be up to 1" shorter than shown in the dimension chart on versions earlier than 2003. The body dimension does not change the repair parts inside. The relief valve body attaches to the outside of the check body and is pressurized with an external RV sensing line.

    The Ames M400 and M500 are reduced pressure principle assemblies. This model was produced under the Hunter name from 2000-2002. In 2002 Watts bought the Hunter models and began producing it as the Ames M400. The "M" designation refers to Ames Maxim brand name. The body is stainless steel tubing. To access the check components a sleeve is mounted over the access cover. On the 2 1/2"-4" size the sleeve slides over the body. On the 6"-10" sizes the sleeve is attached by two grooved couplings. The check components are modular and constructed of Noryl plastic. The check utilizes a torsion spring which is contained when the check module is removed from the body. The check spring must be extended and controlled with a pin or screwdriver to replace the check disc. The check disc is either an EPDM or silicone. The body may be up to 1" shorter than shown in the dimension chart on versions produced in 2003 or earlier.     5000SS

    The Ames 5000ss backflow preventer is a reduced pressure detector assembly. The body is fabricated stainless steel and has a single top bolted entry access to the checks. The relief valve is mounted under the check body and has an external sensing line. The checks are a cam operated design which is made of glass filled Noryl. All versions have a modular check design so the springs will be contained and the seats will be replaceable. In the 2 1/2"-10" sizes the check modules are not repairable and the whole check module must be replaced for a proper repair. The relief is mounted under the main body and supplied by an external relief valve sensing line.

    5000CIV

    Ames 4000CIV and Ames 5000CIV are reduced pressure principle assemblies. Discontinued in 2007. The Ames Company was purchased by Watts Regulator Company in 1997. Ames began marketing the Watts 909 as the Ames 4000CIV.

    5000RPDA

    Ames 4000RP and Ames 5000RPDA are reduced pressure backflow assemblies. The 4" and 6" were discontinued in 1995. The 8" and 10" were discontinued in 2005. The bodies are welded steel which are fused epoxy coated. The internal check parts are stainless steel. with the check seats constructed of bronze. Special tools are required for proper repair. First check uses a tower mount design which requires the tong tool for proper repair. The second check uses a side mount check mechanism which requires a retainer clip tool for proper repair. The check springs are contained when the covers are removed. Check seats are replaceable and a seat removal tool is required to change them. The check mechanism uses a knuckle joint design. The checks are vulcanized clapper plates instead of rubber discs. The relief valve spring is not contained. The relief valve body is removable from the check body and has an external sensing line.
